The long and short of it is, Mr. Warren listed “the” (yes, he used the definite article) five things Jesus did while on the earth but left out Jesus’ greatest work: his death, burial, and Resurrection.
Lest someone think this is making a mountain out of a mole-hill, here is the page of the original interview (on beliefnet.com) where Mr. Warren made these comments. Notice he says he went to the Scriptures to get his plan (not to hear what God was saying) which I believe is part of the problem.
When I was growing up, we called this the “social gospel.” I know that some categorize any social action on the part of a church or believer as “social gospel” and I take issue with using the term so cavalierly, but this comes about as close as one can to the true meaning of the term.
