Today is John Donne’s Birthday

Today is John Donne’s birthday (number 437). He was a contemporary of Shakespeare (and Cervantes, if memory serves). He was also a devout Trinitarian preacher and a poet who used his superb mastery of the English language to express his faith and devotion.

My favorite line from Donne:

I shall not live until I see God, and when I have seen him, I shall never die.

Head over to the Scriptorium to read about this poet and preacher: “Today is John Donne’s Birthday

Here is a page where you can read his sermons:

John Donne Sermons (It is not very user friendly but it is the best source online source available for the sermons.)

Here is Donne’s page at poets.org(Check out the link to George Herbert while you’re there)

Happy 437th, Mr. Donne!
