One of the Best Pieces of Ministry Advice I Have Ever Received

Several years ago someone told me the best piece of ministry advice I have ever received. It is so simple I am almost embarrassed to say that I had not thought of it before yet so profound I remind myself of this constantly. It’s been stated different ways by different people. Here s my version:

You need the sermon as much (if not more) than those who hear you preach it so every sermon you preach you need to preach to yourself.

If you can’t affirm this then your pride has not yet been shattered by the Gospel. Here endeth the lesson.
