Discerning Claims About the Holy Spirit

The work of discerning claims regarding the Spirit are important in today’s world and rest primarily on three things:

(1) the witness of the teachings of the Scriptures,

(2) an examination of a claim’s relation to Jesus Christ, since the Spirit bears witness to Christ the claim must magnify Christ rather than elevating the Spirit at the expense of Christ, and

(3) the morality and ethic of the claim, also vitally important because the gospel has ethical implications, so that any claim that leads one away from the ethical guidelines presented in Scripture are to be rejected.
